Frequently asked questions
What makes PureOcean Marine watermakers different from other brands?
Unlike traditional brands that charge a premium for the logo, PureOcean sells Direct-to-Consumer (DTC), offering industrial-grade desalination systems at a fraction of the cost. We prioritize reliability over complex electronics. Our systems are built with Marine-Grade Stainless Steel (upgraded to 2507 Super Duplex on Pro lines) and Titanium components to resist corrosion in tropical waters, ensuring your investment lasts longer than standard 316L units.
Can I install the watermaker myself (DIY)?
Absolutely. In fact, 80% of our customers are DIY sailors. Our Modular Series (MM/SE) is specifically engineered for easy retrofit. The components (pump, membrane vessel, controls) are separated, allowing you to fit them into tight lockers, under bunks, or in engine rooms where space is limited. We provide comprehensive video guides and wiring diagrams to make the process plug-and-play.
Are replacement filters and membranes easy to find globally?
Yes. We believe in open standards, not proprietary traps. PureOcean systems use industry-standard sized consumables (such as standard 2.5x40" or 2.5x21" RO membranes and standard pre-filters). This means you can find replacement parts in almost any marine chandlery or hardware store worldwide, from the Caribbean to the South Pacific, without waiting for expensive shipments from the manufacturer.
Can I run PureOcean watermakers on solar power or batteries?
Yes. Our DC models (12V/24V) are highly efficient and designed for cruising sailboats running on solar or battery banks. For example, our Modular 50L/h unit draws minimal amps, making it possible to make water while sailing without running a noisy generator. For larger vessels, our AC (110V/220V) units provide high-output rapid tank filling.
How do you prevent corrosion in saltwater environments?
Corrosion is the #1 enemy of watermakers. While many budget brands use plastic or low-grade steel, PureOcean upgrades critical failure points. We use Solid Titanium floats in our flow meters (to prevent sticking) and 2507 Super Duplex / 316L Stainless Steel for high-pressure fittings. This "Precision Metallurgy" approach ensures our systems withstand high-salinity environments better than competitors.
